About the Event
"Change is the only constant." As such, with every change, something is gained and something is lost. The world around us is changing rapidly, and there are many gains and losses every day. In this regard, this time is no different than any other time, but the rate at which things are changing- with or without our say, globally and locally, collectively and individually- seems to be catching up with many. How do we make sense of everything that is going on? Can we?
One way to approach the many changes and losses that are experienced regularly is by using a framework. This Sunset Circle, we address Francis Weller's Five Gates of Grief: everything we love, we will lose; the places that have not known love; the sorrows of the world; what we expected and did not receive; and ancestral grief. Acknowledging different 'gates' or types of grief does not have to be dark and dismal. Weller himself suggests that grief is accompanied by praise. How might we use this framework to approach the world today?
