About the Event
In medicine and in health, we have many options. We can choose to exercise regularly, or not. Choose to take this medication, not that one. Choose to have this procedure preventatively, or wait until we know for sure. And with increasing advances in medicine and technology, people are living even longer and being faced with even more choices, sometimes increasingly difficult.
Our health care decisions all lead us to the same place: we all will die. And yet when it comes to how we die, we don't have many options. There are now 11 states where Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is legal, where those of sound mind and a terminal diagnosis can choose to take medication that ends their own life. What?? That's crazy! What?? That's amazing! Gasp! That's terrible! Whatever your initial response, it is important to know what this option really means: who qualifies, the process, who is involved, and the personal stories that might guide your own decisions. Join our special guest, Janet Moncrief, MSW, who has worked in Hospice for 8 years. Janet has 6 years of experience educating patients and families regarding End of Life Option Act (EOLOA); California’s 2016 aid in dying law. Janet will demystify the aid in dying process, provide a wealth of education about the law and share amazing stories: first-hand experiences at the bedside of people who ended their lives, by their choice, with dignity and grace.
Learn what you need and want to know, and explore what it means for you. This topic can open us up to ethical considerations and ask us to dive deeply into our own personal beliefs. Join the informative, thought-provoking, respectful, and judgment-free conversation!
